Summon Board Passive selections:

    • Leviathan, Diabolos, Alexander 4 / 5 / 6

      • Diabolos "usual" was recently updated from 7 to 5, as Lufenia has changed how players cope with HP damage, and has generally no impact on a fight. The mBRV in 5 isn't too impactful, but may accommodate <100 BRV if it's triggered. This is a minuscule improvement at best, so don't feel compelled to switch previous choices!

How-To-Play Notes

  • Bartz generally wants to open with either Doublehand or Missile in order to gain access to his Adventurous Spirit buff.

  • Doublehand is a single target attack with a BRV gain beforehand, so it’s great to use when Bartz has a low BRV amount.

  • Missile is packed with utility, reducing the enemy’s BRV by 65% initially, then 90% on all other uses. Since this has battery for the party as well as 2 BRV dumps, it’s a great skill when Bartz has high BRV or wants to give his allies some BRV to avoid them getting broken. Note that it has high turn rate and can be used to jump Bartz’s next turn up sooner!

  • Elemental Attack, his LD, is a critical piece of Bartz’s kit, as it AoE shaves enemies, and has 100% gravity associated. Use it to maintain your overhead effect or to emergency shave enemies.

  • Iainuki recharges in just 1 skill use - this gives Bartz fantastic longevity, as with 21 skill uses, he can spam skills for 41 of his turns, but note that his BRV/HP++ have great utility.

    • Note that his BRV++ dumps BRV, and has battery effects to help protect himself from being broken.

    • Note that his HP++ (after using LD), has 100% gravity when needed, but only on a single target, and he only has 3 total uses of this, as it will revert to his unneeded HP+ afterward.

  • Bartz’s BT effect lasts a long time because he is of pretty average speed. Avoid Missile during the BT effect since it has high turn rate!

    • The effect scales up every turn Bartz takes, so if using him alongside fast damage dealers like Terra, Ultimecia, Lightning, etc - consider waiting to spam turns until the 3rd stack of his BT effect is activated.

Team Synergy Notes

  • Bartz is extremely flexible, use him on any team as a support or when needed as utility.

  • Fujin’s LD call on Bartz or another slow ally will give your team a total of 9T wind enchant for the party, which pairs very well with Bartz’s imperil aura.

Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • A sphere - Focus on ATK/BRV DMG primarily, BRV DMG is slightly better than ATK though. mBRV spheres don't have much impact, but an ATK/mBRV combination is a nice option.

  • C sphere - Avoid self healing spheres. Alphinaud, Arciela, or Sherlotta are all good options, but anything works fine. Just note that iBRV is not a special stat for Bartz, so you’d be best served with ATK best, then battery, then healing, then mBRV. Save your Paladin Cecil spheres for an Encouragement armor character.

  • D sphere - Focus on any ATK sphere except Wakka’s.

Removable Passives

NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.
  • BRV Attack+ Up (never used, BRV++ is unaffected by this)

  • HP Attack+ Up (never used since Bartz can spam skills reliably)

  • Spite (utter trash and one of the worst and most useless passives in the game)

  • Bonus Up All (marginal effect)
