How-To-Play Notes

  • TLDR: CoD wants to grab as many breaks as possible. If multiple enemies are unbroken, use BRV+ into a free turn S1 to boost your Darkness stacks +4 (max 5 unless using LD). Never use S2 with 1, 2, 3, or 4 Darkness stacks unless the AoE delay is battle critical.

  • High Speed Particle Beam is its LD, and is used either to maintain the 12T Balance from Ruin buff, or if you anticipate needing a 3T delay, then you can use this far ahead of the buff falling off. It’s best used against a broken target to take advantage of the unbreak.

    • You can get up to max 25 stacks of Darkness, even though you can technically use it at 25 in BT window, it still caps at 25.

  • Insulating Appendages is for shaving AoE, but only if your BRV+ won’t break one of the targets! If not shaving AoE, this is just fodder for recharging their Fast EX and building your Darkness stacks.

  • Wide-Angle Particle Beam is really only when you are at 0 stacks of Darkness, for an AoE 1T delay. If you have any stacks, Wide Angle will drop you to 0, which is a waste. Once you’re at 5+ stacks, this turns into a free skill use of:

  • Zero-Form Particle Beam is a massive 3 turn delay with 3 BRV+HP attacks against a target. This drops your Darkness stacks by 5.

  • Anti-air Particle Beam is its EX ability, and it recharges in 2 skill uses and it delays the target by a turn.

  • Don’t forget to use Break Reset Burst to unbreak an enemy when you want to build up stacks of Darkness more quickly, or push an enemy back a turn.

Team Synergy Notes

  • When CoD’s BT effect is active, be mindful of when enemies will recover from break status. Look at the greyed out number behind the flashing BREAK, which will help you judge when the enemy returns to its iBRV and recovers from break. You’ve got 2 options!

  • Stall a turn with an ally’s AA (that doesn’t attack the target), let the enemy recover from break, then use your ally attack to break. CoD will follow-up and won’t get an instant turn.

  • Rebreaks (Aranea, Noel, etc) are best to ensure you never lose a turn, since they will set the enemy BRV to 0 inside of break status.

  • Support CoD as you normally would any other attacker! Supports that don’t often break enemies are great to give more breaks and free turns to CoD.

Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • A spheres: With lots of ATK boosts already, aim for any BRV DMG boosts that you can. Of course, ATK is still relevant, but spheres like Edgar, Gau, Cloud, & Vayne are among the best choices for Cloud of Darkness

Removable Passives

NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.
  • High-Speed Particle Beam Focused Attack (BRV DMG up on LD but only against a single target, so generally this will have no effect in battle)

  • Break Bonus Up (20% boost to the break bonus when inflicting a break isn’t terribly relevant, just convenient)

  • DEF passives
