Sphere Recommendations
NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!A Sphere - Focus on BRV DMG & ATK completely, don’t be distracted by other stats
D Sphere - Any of the attack based D spheres are great, probably not Wakka unless consistently paired with buffers
E Sphere - Focus ATK & Melee ATK, Auron is a great choice, as are the usual generic suspects in Seymour, Emperor, and Yuffie, etc.
How-To-Play Notes
Kurasame’s Hyōrō debuff is his most impactful part of his kit. It appears when he enters the field even on calls if he has EX+ 2/3! If an enemy acts with 5 Stacks of his debuff, it will reset back to 1 UNLESS they cannot act (confuse/paralyze/sleep) then it will remain at 5 stacks after it's turn ends. His BT effect also makes it keeps his stacks from going down.
Kurasame starts with all his buffs at Quest Start, so feel free to start with S2 on multi-target fights or S1 on single-target fights.
The free skill use is best used on Multi Blizzaga or his AA.
Ice Blade Renzan (S1) is for shaving a single target’s BRV and increasing exisitng stacks by 1
Multi Blizzaga (S2) is your AoE shave, and your way to ramp up the Hyōrō debuff after it resets back to 1 stack (+2 stacks)
Both Skills reapply his Quiet Instructor buff.
Ice Reaper (EX) recharges in 2 skill uses - and it’s important to get and maintain his EX buff as it has his useful follow-up that enables his own damage.
Absolute Zero (LD) refreshes his Warm Gaze buff and automatically applies 5 stacks of Hyōrō on enemies which is great to use before another unit's Force Time or Burst Phase.
His BRV Up Blizzard Slash (AA) is surprisingly strong as a free turn due to it triggering his follow up and granting him some decent buffs for himself.
Biocessation Magic - Freeze (BT) provides a power effect preventing enemies from gaining or stealing BRV (Freeze) and a whopping 50% HP DMG Limit while his Hyōrō is at 5 stacks. His BT also prevents his stacks from dropping so this should be super easy to keep up.
Including his HA+, Kurasame provides 60% HP DMG Limit for standing there which is the most for just standing there so far.
Dead End (FR) reapplies 5 stacks of Hyōrō and asks for:
Ice ability on turn: 20%
Target has Hyōrō stacks: 10% per stack (up to 50%)
Since Kurasame enchants Ice and can consistently keep his Hyōrō buff up at 5 stacks, the party should have no problem hitting 70% each FR turn.
Team Synergy Notes
Kurasame’s call is so useful, it can be a staple in any fight that doesn't resist elemental imperil debuffs or ice elemental damage
Kurasame is quite flexible with team comps really. The most important thing is having a big damage dealer alongside him; Kurasame's damage is much more respectable, however not quite the level of Mog, Serah, Squall, Raines.
He's still capable of being the main damage dealer if you want for a bit though!
Note that his HP DMG up stacks with others, check them out on our roles page!
Removable Passives
NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.DEF passives
Break Bonus Up (marginal benefit)
BRV Attack++ HP Attack++ (but only if you do not plan to use these attacks and just plan to spam skills as noted in Gameplay Notes above)
