Team Synergy Notes

  • Cor's buffs do not protect from instant break! They just can't be broken by BRV hits (similar to Keiss buff, unlike Krile/Emperor/etc.)

  • Cor's FR and his kit shine in almost any team setup whether it's aggressive rushdown or slow burn off-turn with off-turn teams having an edge in FR HP DMG Bonus raising at the tradeoff of time watching animations go off.

  • Utilizing Cor with a character or call that can inflict lock Warrior of Light, Basch, Celes, etc will allow him to attack more frequently, boosting his damage contribution over the course of battle. Especially Celes being a tank with off-turn attacks.

  • If pairing Cor with a cover unit, Cor will NOT link attack all the time as the enemy has to target the cover unit (or Cor) directly which is not the case when they cover the third wheel - err, ally.

  • He works very well with characters that have instant turns like Terra, Ultimecia, Aranea, Tidus. If a unit is too fast, you risk the buff falling off if you're not careful!

    • He is actively bad with Cloud of Darkness in main party with the intention of CoD being the main damage dealer, as he will steal all of its breaks that it needs to boost Darkness stacks and jump turns.

  • He is, however, great with Cloud of Darkness FRIEND or follow-up bot as he will steal all of the breaks, and maximize the BT effect from Cloud of Darkness.

Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • A Spheres - Focus only on BRV DMG and/or ATK. King's ATK +20% is most likely the best choice! ATK +15% or BRV DMG +10% is otherwise great. Noel is slightly better than Cor's sphere, otherwise Cloud, Raijin are the other go-tos, but use the link to pick any sphere in these categories.

  • D Sphere - Hope or Queen are the clear best spheres, but any of the ATK D spheres outside of Wakka work well!

How-To-Play Notes

  • Cor's central gameplay is around TWO of his buffs. TLDR: Maintain these buffs as much as possible! For high damage windows, leverage Cor's LD, since it isn't tied to a special buff/debuff. Then use his Reaper's Gale attack.

    • Oath of Absolute Defense (ally buff) comes from S1 or S2

      • Great to be placed on Lock tanks or characters with instant turns / or those that jump turns

      • Avoid linking with supports that do not attack an enemy! If you don't use a skill that attacks an enemy, Cor won't do his additional attack.

      • Using S1 or S2 will remove any other instances of this buff from other allies on the field before applying it on the selected ally. This can be circumvented by placing the buff on Kain/Freya and having them jump in the air as they cannot have their buffs affected.

      • Another way to have both allies have this buff is to place the buff on an ally, have that ally swap out for a friend unit, have Cor place the buff on the other original ally and have the friend unit go away.

      • Both these methods will make it so Cor does 3 Linked Attacks on enemies turn when they have an ALL attack queued up however you will also not be able to use S1 or S2 on Cor unless Kain/Freya are still airborne. Mainly helpful in off-turn team compositions.

    • One of Lucis's Three (self buff) comes from EX

  • Cor's linked attack uniquely goes off before anyone's turns...

    • Before the ally with Oath of Absolute Defense takes their turn OR is targeted by an enemy

    • Before Cor with One of Lucis's Three takes his turn OR is targeted by an enemy

      • Enemies don't need to act making him work well with stun effects

      • Only 1 linked attack when allies attack, but will attack multiple times for each ally targeted with the correct buff

  • Reflorescere (LD) is primarily used for damage windows, as it grants an instant turn, and maxes out his stacks of his overhead effect.

    • His overhead is counts up by 1, max 10, whenever Cor triggers his start of turn attack.

    • At 7 stacks he gets a hard hitting, instant turn HP+ called Reaper's Gale. This is notable as each hit will hit the BRV DMG Limit, and it's instant turn. You drop down to 0 after using it. So if you want to take a few turns in a row you would loop LD -> Reaper's Gale -> LD and so on as you'd like.

  • Moonlit Dawn (S1) is a party battery + single target attack. Given it has 2 BRV dumps and a splash mainly used for single target fights.

  • Snowbreak (S2) also batteries the party but has an AoE attack. This skill is good for also upkeeping his Crownsguard Warrior buff along with damaging multiple enemies.

  • Lion's Roar (EX) recharges in 2 skill uses. It grants him his One of Lucis's Three buff.

  • Welcome Coincidence (FR) with pretty easy conditions:

    • +5% for any off-turn attack

    • +40% when the active party member deals at least 1 BRV hit for 9,999 DMG or more

    • It also has some added party auras and a selfish aura enabling ANY of Cor's BRV hits to deal it's BRV DMG Limit (40% chance each hit)
