Supplementary Notes to the Infographic Analysis:

The infographic covers the key critical points and should be reviewed prior to delving into the in-depth notes

How-To-Play Notes

  • You will want to open with Bitter End to get your LD effect active, while also shielding your team and locking enemies onto you! Note that the BRV hits only hit one enemy, despite both taking full damage. This skill should only be used to maintain the overhead effect unless you need the AoE lock debuff for some reason, the auras and HP DMG reduction are extremely important to always keep.

  • With enemies locked on you, expect to Throw Buckler to refresh just your shield when needed. You also get a 3T Elude buff that may help you dodge getting debuffed. This is otherwise useful to shave a single target if the EX is not charged.

  • Shining Shield is your bread and butter. Pay attention to your allies’ shield values and make sure to refresh when they get low.

  • Shining Wave is his strongest BRV shaving tool and his minor source of healing for the party. It recharges in 2 skill uses, and WoL isn’t particularly fast so he’s fine to spam skills for 31 turns, which is more than enough for most quests!

  • His HP++ is certainly fine to use if you need to conserve skills, especially with his massive 50% HP DMG up, but it won’t battery allies like his Shining Shield or Throw Buckler!

  • All Resist Up is extremely useful if you know a big attack is coming and you’re worried about the shields getting shredded.

Team Synergy Notes

  • Use our roles page to find other BRV & HP damage boosting allies, and consider maxing his high armor+, which boosts the party’s HP damage limit further!

  • Pair with a damage dealer & someone to maintain the Lufenia orb!

Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • A sphere: Consider giving him a sphere that boosts iBRV - he technically likes most spheres, but save your BRV DMG & ATK spheres for your damage dealers.

  • B sphere: Gladio is best certainly, boosting his ATK aura, but also consider Gabranth for longer lasting shields (or Gabranth RF).

  • D sphere: Focus ATK or iBRV, but really any lying around are fine for him (except Wakka). Outside of the ATK spheres, notable ones would be Edward and Ramza, as well as Aphmau.

Removable Passives

NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.
  • BRV Attack+ BRV Attack++ (never used)

  • HP Damage BRV Gain (insignificant BRV gain when being dealt damage is terrible)

  • BRV Guard Up (not useful unless someone batteries him back)

  • HP Attack+ HP Attack++ Up (not used except in longer fights, but in a longer fight you definitely want this equipped!)
