Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • Vayne is a mostly melee attacker (magic EX) that can frequently inflict breaks, frequently buffs, and does not debuff at all... wtf is that E slot...

  • A Sphere - Prioritize ATK & BRV DMG, plenty of options, click the link to see our sphere hub. Breaking conditions are harder for other units while Vayne has no issue breaking (peoples' wills).

  • D Sphere - Boost the party's ATK (probably not Wakka tho)

  • E Sphere - Give him some utility with Vanille. No debuffs, no Yuffie >:C

How-to-Play Notes

These notes are thanks to the work of Renki#4255, who proactively wrote these notes, allowing Ink to edit & add them here.
  • TLDR: Vayne uses many turns in a row so he can very easily blow through buffs and his own BT aura. The + versions of his attacks are all free skill uses and free & instant turn (besides LD) however they do not increase stacks or duration of Conqueror’s Power. If using Vayne’s BT, he is best paired with a turn hog to take advantage of his strong follow up from his BT Aura.

  • Conqueror’s Power is Vayne’s signature buff. This provides a small buff in stats for him and the party but more importantly at 3 stacks gives Vayne his + skills. Using his + skills allows Vayne to take multiple turns in a row to deal solid damage.

  • Mach Wave is a simple attack that increases his Conqueror’s Power stacks by 2.

  • Force of Will is a stronger attack that also unBreaks the opponent after the first HP attack allowing for a single target delay. Force of Will also increases Conqueror’s Power by 1 stack and gives Vayne his Consul’s Ingenuity buff. This is also his favorite move while his Force Time is active.

  • Tree of Sephira unBreaks all enemies before attacking, allowing Vayne to delay all enemies. It also maxes his stacks of Conqueror’s Power and refunds 1 use of Mach Wave and Force of Will. Do not use + version of Tree of Sephira unless BT effect is active. Tree of Sephira should be used to maximize his stacks of Conqueror’s Power and being + means you are gaining nothing.

  • Contempt is a very strong BRV shaver that gives Vayne max stacks of Conqueror’s Power and his Contempt buff. Contempt provides numerous important stat buffs to Vayne and the party.

  • Gigaflare Sword’s Burst Aura provides decent stat buffs to the party but also gives Vayne a very strong follow up on all party attacks for 10T, dramatically increasing Vayne’s damage over time.

    • Vayne's follow-up won't trigger from breaks inflicted by traps, counters and is once per attack

  • Godslaughter is his FR and along with it's damage, it immediately sets him up to take multiple turns in a row with his Conqueror's Power buff and an instant turn from the FR itself.

Team Synergy Notes

    • His strongest allies are linked attackers and supports. Cor, Yang and some other Melee Linked attackers go especially well with Vayne if you add Sephiroth BT+ effect to allow for easier breaks for non-Vayne allies.

    • Ignoring allies, to setup his FR phase you want to:

      • BT finisher -> FR -> S2 -> S2 -> LD -> S2 -> S2 -> S2 -> S2 -> LD -> FR -> BT finisher (Conqueror's Power won't tick down)

      • Lunafreya's LDCA or Quick Prayer from a party member can make the BT finisher -> FR part really easy

      • You can also opt to forego the LD before BT phase to allow 1T after BT finisher with a high FR HP DMG Bonus for a big call/Level 50 Summon later.

    • With Sephiroth BT effect up, you can opt to use S1 instead of S2 on multi-target fights for the extra splash damage!
