Sphere Recommendations
NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!A Sphere - Noctis or Keiss are best for him, as these spheres match very few characters. His own sphere is rather useless, so you can also just look for BRV DMG or ATK+mBRV spheres. Just ATK is fine, and just mBRV is worse but also fine.
D Sphere - Focus on ATK, any outside of Wakka work very well for him!
E Sphere - You can’t go wrong here. Most of the spheres work well with him, and spheres as is have sometimes imperceptible differences in battle. Quistis is probably the best to boost his aura, Kefka, Seymour, Emperor for ATK boosts, or you can opt for Eald’narche or Serah for selfish mBRV boosts.
How-To-Play Notes
Layle’s gameplay revolves around launching enemies. To do this efficiently, he needs his [Force] debuff applied at all times. Thankfully, he starts all waves with his debuff applied now! [Force] allows you to launch enemies twice as fast as usual. More technical details can be found in our glossary.
Unless another summon is needed, Pandemonium is the best summon to use with Layle since it boosts HP damage inside of launches, which he does excessively!
Layle generally opens with Geo Impact to get his overhead effect up. This is the primary reason for continued usage… maintain that effect! The LD also does a bit more:
Layle’s next turn will jump behind whichever ally you select
The entire party will join in the launch from his LD, and they will all get battery from the attack
Any other enemies can be launched the next time you target them
Layle gains a special HP attack Geo Impact which will battery the party and launch the target. Thanks to his LD effect, *any* launch that Layle initiates, the entire party will join!
Field Burst is your S1, and is used not just to upkeep his important [Force] debuff, but also AoE BRV shaving & splash damage.
Energy Gain is your S2, and it’s used to delay a target, and *generally* initiate a launch. Make sure you have the [Force] debuff applied, as this halves the amount of “chase units” needed, and will mean that Energy Gain will launch the enemy. The delay + battery effect can make for great launches!
Gae Bolg recharges incredibly fast, generally just 1 skill use. This allows Layle to spam skills (including his special 1 use HP+) and never run dry in 120 turn quest.
If Layle’s EX isn’t recharging in 1 skill use, it’s probably because you have BOTH a speed aura in your party and you just used Energy Gain, which has high turn rate.
Don’t forget about his AA, BRV Rejuvenate, which you can use before you initiate a launch just to top off your party battery and boost your damage.
Team Synergy Notes
Layle gets a staggering boost from allies that boost HP Damage (check our roles page), or have HP damage limit up via their HA+ (check Dissidia Compendium). If you really love Layle and plan to use him a lot, his HA+ is perfect for his kit!
Removable Passives
NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.BRV Initiative (SPD +10% when BRV > 50% mBRV… THIS PASSIVE IS TRASH, even if you don’t need space, remove it. The reason why is that if an ally batteries Layle, he will speed up, but once he attacks, his speed will go back down, and can mess up turn order and planning).
BRV Attack++ HP Attack+ HP Attack++ Up (Layle can spam skills for 40 turns, you’re never ever ever ever going to need these!)
Break Boost Up (BREAK bonus +20% when Layle inflicts a break… this is pretty insignificant and can be removed if needed)
