Sphere Recommendations
NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!A Spheres: Kuja is absolutely best for him, as all of his attacks are AoE. Any other BRV DMG spheres are excellent, and ATK spheres (like his own) are also good. Seifer does deal weak damage, so Seven’s also works very well!
E Sphere: Any of the spheres work, with Paine’s having the most utility and benefit. Secondarily, you can opt for Yuffie since he constantly debuffs. Irvine’s is also one of the best. Seymour & Emperor are great for him but probably belong on others that don’t debuff as often.
How-To-Play Notes
Seifer’s EX starts charged, and he has all his relevant buffs at quest start, so it's best to open with the EX. Seifer can spam skills for ~29 of his turns, equating to an 87 turn quest without ever needing BRV/HP++.
Sometimes it's best to save his EX for a turn if you need to time his powerful EX debuff to overlap with an upcoming powerful enemy attack. Enemies being forced to deal 0 BRV DMG is extremely strong.
Keep an eye on his Purge buff and Foul debuff, you'll want to use his LD before these drop off generally. His LD is packed with utility, being a pocket AoE delay, but also being valuable to upkeep his debuff. The tandem of the LD buff & debuff mean that all of Seifer’s attacks will delay all enemies by a turn.
You can use Demon Slice next, unless you want to save the debuff. The debuff negates the BRV DMG of the boss’ next attack, so it’s really useful. The EX recharges in 2 skill uses, so keep that in mind if a boss has a nasty recast or ALL attack that you’re expecting.
No Mercy is his AoE hits into splash damage, so it’s a bit better if you have no/low BRV in your pool. It drops an ATK debuff that isn’t terribly special. This skill is Wind element, so be sure to check the boss’ resistances!
Bloodfest is his higher overflow attack, but with split damage. It’s good just about any time, but if the boss has a lot of auras up, you’ll want to use this when he has more BRV in his pool, so he can take advantage of all the overflow. This also drops his more relevant mBRV debuff, which paired with his Tactics armor, reaches 60%.
Seifer’s AA, Set Defense Down, is actually more useful than an average AA, provided that you have the debuff slot open for it. Stacking his generic alongside his LD debuff and Tactics armor jumps him up to 100% DEF down!
Team Synergy Notes
You’ll use Seifer in your main party for multiple, consistent delays or for his EX debuff negating enemy BRV DMG. Since he’s an AoE delayer, if you’re planning no/low boss turn runs, you can forego the defensive support, just make sure to stack BT effects, call debuffs, and more.
Note that Bartz has an aura imperil for Wind, so that can boost his BRV DMG an extra 50%, either together in party, or as just as a call.
Removable Passives
BRV Attack+ Up (has no effect on his BRV++, and even if it did, we’d still tell you remove it :) )
HP Attack+ Up (has no effect on his HP++, so remove it if you need space)
BRV Guard Up (30% DEF up when BRV > 50% mBRV… this is generally useless)
BRV Attack++ HP Attack++ Up (you’d only want this if you expect the turn count to get above 90)
