How To Play Notes
Thanks to LegEater for their thorough Rubicante notes they allowed Cel to edit and publish!TL;DR: Rubicante is a fire enchanter, counter tank that wants to get hit to counter; he has an aura lock (no debuff needed and has priority over debuff locks). His counter buff comes from S1, EX and FR. With his BT effect, he gains ANOTHER separate counter which hits twice as hard as his normal one; they will both trigger with his BT effect active if he's hit (with his normal counter buff) and able to counter (not stunned).
He has very little trouble keeping up all of his buffs and debuffs as even his gauge charging move extends his own buffs. He's also extremely safe against most HP damage attacks as he will heal himself to 50% HP (with FR Boards) if he's attacked and goes below it; very few special attacks can stop him.
Firaga (S1) refreshes Lock aura and Counter buff; can work as filler before FR time.
Absorb Blizzara (S2) is FR gauge juice. Also heals and maintains his buffs making it extremely powerful in off-turn team strategies if used in BT phase.
Inferno (EX) refreshes lock aura and counter buff but with more damage. Restores a use of S1.
Soulscald (LD) refreshes his party auras buff (which includes party Fire Enchant), his S1 buff and provides a free skill use. LD before BT phase can allow you to S2 in BT phase one more time.
Greyon Be Its Name (BT) effect is 50% HP DMG Limit up and another 4 AoE HP counter. You want this. His BT phase is best used as S2 spam time as his personal damage isn't the greatest on-turn (4 HPs from skills vs 6 HPs from counters). If possible use LD before his BT phase for another use of S2 in BT phase.
Fire. He imperils fire with S1, EX, LD and his counters.
Warrior's Pride (FR) asks for:
Any Fire Abilities (5%)
On-turn Fire Abilities (10%)
Rubicante is hit (40%)
Unless enemies spam AoE attacks, you don't want to pair him with a cover tank; units like Beatrix are ok because her counter is when anyone gets hit.
In FR time, when he takes HP Damage and goes below 50%, he will heal himself backto 50%. He has last stand (Survives lethal HP damage if he was at least at 50% of his max health when hit) which makes him virtually unkillable to most attacks.
Also during FR time, he lowers his turn rate (he delays himself) and he buffs himself with 50% BRV & HP DMG dealt.
Extra Notes:
Rubicante's kit prefers a play style that aims for pressing the least amount of buttons possible, this includes removing his SPD passives.
Rubicante is extremely hard to kill by himself especially with his FR active while his damage is tied to enemy turns, making him a perfect fit for solos/duos much like Celes (the queen).
Rubicante also has high team mitigation buffs through his LD and a defensive AA to prevent even more damage and keep your party safe.
In addition, Rubicante can equip a healing sphere that can do chip healing through each of his counters to add even more safety.
Rubicante's FR is very flexible as he can equip a Lulu LD call allowing party members with different elemental off-turns to raise the gauge. Due to the turn rate down, He becomes so slow that Lulu's LD call can last the entire force time.
Rubicante never wants to BT phase inside force time, however he uses it to charge the gauge, get his BT up and race the enemy getting to force time if it's an extremely detrimental effect.
