Gameplay Notes:

  • Generally, Guy opens with EX to drop his imperil up front. You can then use his AA (Weak Damage Up All) for a free to boost the party’s BRV DMG further, and then use his LD to set up all of his buffs. Finally, use War Cry to lock enemies and max his stacked buff.

  • Guy is fairly easy to use, since all of his skills are AoE. Use your skills to maintain your buffs & debuffs! Keep them up always.

  • War Cry is your way to keep enemies locked on Guy and protect your party. Just be sure to keep him above 50% HP to maintain his Last Stand, which will prevent KO.

  • Gaia Rumble is up after 2 skill uses, so let’s do some longevity checks…

    • No AA Weave: (EX > 2 skills), repeated 16 times = 48 turns skill spam (~144 turn quest)

      • AA will be active for 8 turn cycles

    • Weaving in AA: (EX > AA > 2 skills) + (EX > 2 skills), repeated 5 times = 30 turns skill spam (~90 turn quest)

      • AA will be active for 28 turn cycles (start to consume uses of your AA late in the battle)

    • This clearly indicates that Guy can freely use his free skill use on AA with no impact to his longevity, as few fights extend past 90 turns

  • Gaia Swing is your go-to imperil button if your EX is not charged and if the enemy has cleansed Guy's debuff or removed it in some way

Team Synergy Notes:

  • Versus BRV gain reduction effects, you may need to pair Guy with a strong battery, since he only has a 40% BRV DMG taken reduction. If he doesn’t have a lot of BRV, he is likely to be broken and open himself up to taking a lot of HP DMG.

Spheres:

  • A sphere - ATK & BRV DMG are technically most important, but consider that Guy is not there to do damage, so using a refined sphere or an mBRV sphere to boost his post turn BRV gain has more utility on him than an average character. If you're fully sphering Guy because he's a fave, then you certainly will opt for ATK/BRV DMG.

  • B sphere - His own sphere really is best for him. Gabranth or a refined (RF) Gabranth sphere is great. Celes’ sphere is also excellent, but note that her sphere is one of the best for characters that have B slots but don’t have the Lock debuff, so you probably want to save it. If you wanted to max his damage, clearly a Gladio sphere would be amazing, but this is better suited on a damage oriented tank.

  • D sphere - Really any D sphere that is not Wakka, and is not focused on iBRV is good on Guy


Bad passives (if you lack enough CP to equip important passives):

  • BRV Attack++ HP Attack++ Up (you’ll never use these…)

  • HP Damage Guard Up (useless)
