Gameplay Notes

  • Opening up with S1 or S2 depends on the fight, usually it’s Blizzard Combo to get the AoE damage flowing. Your EX will be charged right away after that, and you can use LD to get his special effect active.

  • Blizzard Combo is tied to his Sage Mode, and is geared toward dealing AoE damage. This mode doesn’t have a speed boost, so is ideal when wanting to maintain his ice enchant to the party.

  • Multi-hit is tied to his Ninja Mode, and is geared toward dealing single target damage. There’s no capability in this mode to shave multiple targets at once, so be mindful of that. This mode is also incredibly fast, so he’ll burn through buffs if you aren’t careful.

  • When shifting from Ninja to Sage, he tends to do an unpredictable turn jump backwards since he’s losing the huge speed boost from his Ninja buff.

  • His EX is different depending on his current mode. Meteorite (Sage EX) is the only tool outside of LD that he has to shave multiple targets, and is great damage against multiple targets. Blade Torrent is great against single targets, but don’t delay using your EX just to change mode ever. The EX charges incredibly fast, but its charge depends on the mode that you are in. 2 skills is reliable, but if you are opting to use HP++, Ninja will generally require more uses.

  • Sword & Sorcery should be used to maintain his special effect primarily, but you can also use it earlier if you need a free use of his Blizzard Enchant All upcoming. When party ice enchant is needed, you should specifically use your free skill uses on AA.

Team Synergy Notes

  • Recent characters with AA’s that recharge both of their skills include Kuja, Penelo, Arciela, and Squall is upcoming. Onion Knight in main party, or as an LD call will give a free use of their AA, recharging 2 skills. This can be done again with an Onion Knight friend, who can give you 3 more free AA’s, leading to 6 additional skill uses, totaling 10 extra skill uses including your base AA. Just note that most characters have enough skill uses currently to already spam their skills, so 10 free skill uses isn’t as impactful as it sounds!

  • Some strong characters with limited use skills include Keiss & Ceodore (their skill 2's are both nice to use for free)

  • If your party is already enchanted with someone like Krile, Guy, Xande, etc then you don’t need to use your free ability use on party enchant.

  • Onion Knight friend skill usage: BT > AA > LD x3

Sphere Recommendations

  • A spheres - Focus ATK & BRV DMG as usual. Avoid those that boost just a type of damage, since he is mixed kit (like Melee ATK up, won’t help half of his kit). He hits weakness damage consistently, so that’s a viable trigger for your sphere as well.

  • D sphere - The ATK aura spheres listed at the top are certainly the best (except Wakka’s)

Removable Passives

(to remove if you run out of CP space)
  • Chain Bonus (one of the most useless passives in the game)

  • Ninja War Tactics (he’s already too fast in this mode, no need to have this one equipped)

  • BRV Attack+ Up (never needed)

  • DEF passives

  • HP Attack+ Ninja Up (you likely won’t need this for months until bosses have higher HP pools)

  • HP Attack+ Sage Up (you likely won’t need this for months until bosses have higher HP pools)
