Sphere Recommendations
NOTE: The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!A Sphere - While ATK is best for him dealing damage, he’s not primarily a damage dealer. ATK/mBRV combination spheres are the best, but take advantage of a support heavy character that synergizes heavily with mBRV, by giving him mBRV spheres. Very few characters benefit from mBRV spheres as much as Edward.
D Sphere - Focus ATK aura for the party, avoid Wakka sphere though.
E Sphere - Same logic as his A sphere. ATK is better suited on a damage dealer, so consider giving him Quistis or Amidatelion sphere for more party benefits, or you can boost self mBRV with Eald’narche or Serah.
How-To-Play Notes
Edward has an interesting playstyle playing chicken with enemy turns as he can hide and come back when he wants to offer more aggressive auras or take a step back, avoid damage (indirect mitigation sometimes) and regen the party's HP while he's away.
Lullaby (LD) is best used to apply his powerful Sleep debuff. As long as enemies have this debuff, they can’t do anything.
Sleep goes down by 1 whenever you deal damage to that enemy. Sometimes it’s best to focus single target attacks on one enemy, and keep the other asleep. Depends on the fight of course!
Bardsong (S1) is his AoE shaving skill, which also drops his DEF down debuff. While it applies Hero’s Rime, the duration is so long that you’re likely just to use this for AoE shaving or dropping the debuff.
Hide (S2) is Edward’s unique quality, allowing him to dodge all incoming attacks while hidden. His party aura and his own damage take a big hit during these windows, but this can be strategically very helpful when he’s targeted. Whenever you’re ready use Return (also S2):
Return can only be used while Edward is hiding. It’s a single target attack, and it’s always a free skill use. It restores his party aura to stronger levels, but he won’t have his evasion any longer. This is the only skill in his kit that doesn’t battery the party.
Use his AA, BRV Heal to battery the party when he’s returning if you need to give them some cushion from upcoming attacks.
Mystic Waltz (EX) recharges in just 2 skill uses, and it extends all of Edward’s debuffs that have been inflicted by a turn. This, Sleep and Hide are his most notable qualities to see if he's worthy of your party.
Team Synergy Notes
Edward’s best calls are likely those that inflict Lock. Edward can hide, and then use his call, and then will dodge all incoming attacks. For a list of calls that inflict Lock, check Dissidia.dev’s call finder (pre filtered for Lock debuff!)
Be sure to time your Sleep debuff when running Edward with AoE attackers. Their split/splash/full damage attacks will decrease Sleep on all enemies.
Removable Passives
NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.Hide BRV Gain (saying marginal effect would be generous, this is trash)
Buff Speed Up (this doesn’t boost any stats, so if your Edward isn’t fully geared, this is fine to remove, but otherwise keep this so he can apply Sleep in a timely manner)
BRV Attack++ HP Attack++ Up (can only really safely remove this if expecting the quest to end before 87 turns)
