Supplementary Notes to the Infographic Analysis:

The infographic covers the key critical points and should be reviewed prior to delving into the in-depth notes

How-To-Play Notes

  1. Yang’s gameplay varies wildly based on the team comp, so here is a special section:

  1. With a consecutive turn user (see list as of April 2021 below under Team Synergy)

  2. Open with LD for his buff, then use Kick+, then LD again, then EX

  3. From there, you can refresh your S2 buffs if you want, letting the LD buff fall off for a turn.

  4. When ready: LD > EX > LD > S1

  5. During these windows, abuse your consecutive turn characters by spamming their skills, more notes below.

  6. Make sure to burst with his LD buff active!

  7. Generally most bosses are dead by now

  • Under normal gameplay, Yang is a strong AoE attacker.

  • Focus (IV) is just to maintain your generic buffs, or shave AoE if needed. It has high turn rate so sometimes you may want Yang to jump up in turn to break up consecutive boss turns.

  • Twin Wing Frenzy charges in 2 skill uses and gives him his 3T buff that has ATK and a lot of stolen brv overflow. It only shaves one enemy, so be aware. He can spam skills for 31 turns straight, so 90+ turn quest, and he’s already a bit slow, he has fantastic longevity.

  • Kick+ is just a high damage skill, shaving an enemy with high splash.

  • Oboro Strike should be used tactically, as the buff makes your entire team unbreakable and has nice overflow and physical attack boosts. Use this buff to counteract ALL attacks. Use the followup especially while a friend BT effect is active. Use AA’s that have a BRV or HP attack associated. Yang will constantly follow up any attack!

  • Kick Recovery Boost is useful when your LD buff isn't active and your EX is charged (you may lose the EX buff by using this carelessly)

Team Synergy Notes

  • Characters as of April 2021 that work extremely well with Yang are: Terra, Aranea, Ultimecia, and Lightning. Yang does not *need* these 4 by any means, but his damage output is raised exponentially if so.

    • Terra’s LD can be used frequently, and she is the most well known for running with Yang because of how many turns she can take.

    • Aranea can go in full skill spam mode while the LD buff is active, ensuring that she always maintains her High Speed Maneuver buff, netting a free turn on each of her turns. Her Vitalcrusher debuff makes her a damage enabler also!

    • Ultimecia should also spam skills, netting 4 turns per each of her normal turns, thanks to her EX giving 3 back to back turns.

    • Lightning… is Lightning :) everyone is familiar with her skill spamming ways, just note that she’s the most single target of these. Her LD buff makes her a damage enabler for the third member of the team.

    • You can certainly use 2 of these 4 alongside Yang. No need for a dedicated support, healer, etc - but avoid Ulti, Terra, Yang - it probably works, but you have no damage enabler outside of Terra’s BT.

    • 3 Damage Dealers is a completely different team structure than what you’re used to in Lufenia, and is a preview of gameplay to come further in the future.

  • Damage enablers go extremely well with Yang. This includes characters with powerful BT effects, but also characters like Aranea, Paladin Cecil, Seven, Desch, etc. Check our BRV & HP Damage Up characters on our roles page.

  • For the 2 reasons above, the most common team structure for Yang is: BT character + Damage Enabler + Yang. It is ideal when the BT char or the enabler is a consecutive turn character like those listed above.

Sphere Recommendations

NOTE: Recommendations as of infographic release. The sphere letters below are hyperlinked to our Sphere Hub which lists all available spheres sorted by effect!
  • A spheres: 3 ATK spheres, don’t get distracted by anything else cute. This is all that matters to fuel his BRV gain on his follow-ups. No melee ATK either, just raw ATK!

Removable Passives

NOTE: Passives should generally only be removed if you lack CP space. There are very rare occasions where a character has a bad passive that disrupts their optimal gameplay.
  • Kill BRV Gain (worst passive in the game)

  • Buff Speed Up (he’s slow enough that you don’t need to make him slower. If not using him with a consecutive turn character, then this is wise to remove)

  • Kick Attacks HP Attack+ Up (never used)

  • Kick Attacks+ HP Attack++ Up (you’re generally spamming skills with Yang, you don’t need this)
